Telling 100% of the Story
The ledger records what happened, in dollars. The job system holds the why. Lance Rubin walks through what changes when a CFO can read both at once: job margin and unbilled work in progress, sitting next to the invoices they belong to.

What you'll leave with
For accountants, bookkeepers and finance teams working across more than one system.
- 1How to trace an operational number back to its source and decide whether it's safe to act on
- 2The difference between a number a model generated and a number a system computed, and why that decides whether you can sign off on it
- 3What to ask any vendor before you connect a client's systems to them

Want this on your own jobs?
Twenty minutes with Jez. Bring a job you already know the margin on, and see what simPRO and Xero say about it side by side.
“Xero was seeing 30% of the story. 70% of the story was actually sitting in Simpro.”
What the session is about
Xero is the floor, and it does its job: every invoice raised, every bill paid, every balance reconciled and auditable. What a ledger is not built to carry is the shape of the work behind those dollars - which job, which technician, which hours are booked and not yet billed. That detail lives in simPRO. EVA reads both and lines them up, so revenue, labour and materials on a single job land beside the ledger entry they belong to. What comes out is job-level margin and unbilled work in progress, refreshed on a schedule, with every figure traceable back to the system and the row it came from. Nobody rekeys anything, and no data engineer is required to hold it together.
“98% correct is still 100% incorrect.”

Unbilled WIP: the part that lives in the job system
Work that has been done and not yet invoiced is real value. It has been paid for in wages and materials, and it has not reached the ledger yet, because nothing has been raised against it. Read the job system and it is already there: hours and costs booked to open jobs, by customer, by month. Put that beside the ledger and something the business was already carrying becomes a number somebody can act on - chase it, bill it, or reprice before the next job is quoted.
“The unbilled WIP was stuff that wasn't even on their balance sheet in Xero.”
